"Bobē (What A Spirit Walks That Way)" is the lead track from the début album, ALRIGHT, by Roger Lewis.

Roger is now 80 and often touring with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. When in New Orleans he regularly plays out five nights a week. He also plays Second-Lines on many Sundays. He's as true as anyone to sustaining the culture that raised him.

Roger, Herlin, and I recorded last August and January the nine tracks that will make up ALRIGHT! on its release. The instrumentals for "Get Your JAM On!" and "Glory Glory Glory Is For Us All" include Michael Torregano Jr. on keyboard and Mario Abney on trumpet. The vocal for "Glory ..." adds singer Erica Falls.

All tracks were recorded in Rick G. Nelson's Marigny Studio. Rick engineered tracking of "Bobē ...", "Carrying the Saxophones", "Little Things", and 'Maybe You See Horses.' Adam Keil at the Marigny tracked "Glory ..." and " ... JAM ...". Mixing was done with Adam except "Bobee ...", Glory ...", and " ... JAM On!, which David Farrell and I mixed. Mastering of all tracks was done with David in his studio.

What I hear from Roger's saxophones in all the tracks is delicacy and invention, lots of melody and harmony, and strength and soul. Even his piano has these qualities, a caring that makes others care. I'm so GLAD this album and these tracks are coming out.

"Bobē (What A Spirit Walks That Way" is from a tune Roger composed soon after passing of his son, Roger Heywood Lewis Jr. That son, nicknamed Bobē (Bo-bee) for reasons Roger doesn't remember--like many nicknames in New Orleans have shed their origin-stories--did indeed go off to the Marine Corps, serving four years with distinction into the early 1980s , then returned to New Orleans and died within 18 months of a sudden and untreatable disease. That the tune of the 1980s and of 2021 has such swinging and dauntless energy is like
music that carries folks back to town, a celebration of the one passed through a reviving of his or her vitality.
