The song is inspired by David Pearlman (Poppa Neutrino, 'The Happiest
Man in the World'), cofounder of the Flying Neutrinos and sailor of scrap-made rafts across the Atlantic Ocean and down the Mississippi River, 1933-2011. The fine musicians Todd Londigan and Ingrid Lucia are among his children.

lyrics

"The Next Great Thing"

The next great thing is always
Right around the bend
It beckons like the brow of God,
Helen and Sirens
It sails above Proust's roiling Plain
Perfect pass from Sin

It's "Pay no rent--free your life"
It's "Build a raft out of junk"
Or "Build a junk out of rafts"
It's "Learn from chance and the street,
Fly, children, you'll find a way
To the powers in you to be"

He was always crossing Oceans
He was always loving dogs
He was champion of orphans
And causes never lost
He was captain of the circus
His charges danced their cross

The beard, blue eyes--
The "Heh-Heh-Heh"
Chuckling at
The teeth of facts
The hero's height
And heft and nerve--
Of course hubris!--
The name itself!--
The chosen name
Is Falstaff plain--
Poppa ('Papa'
Ernest) a jest
For and against,
And Neutrino
The force unseen
But everywhere
And integral
To everything

Anyone can score touchdowns
With their own private plays
Anyone can be homeless
As Elvis in Graceland
Anyone can be like sun and moon
And make love on the sands

He was always close to water
He was given unto waves
He always looked for hope in change
He knew death 's as good as life
He stared into the deep's abyss
And called out for Hollywood

He was always crossing Oceans
He was always loving dogs
He was champion of orphans
And causes never lost
He was captain of the circus,
His charges danced their cross

The one good thing that never fails
Family and friends in the wake
One good thing sure to come through
Right around the bend
Beckoning like the brow of God ...
Friends and family in the wake.
